Words from the Principal

To the Maple Hill School Community:

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and are ready for a new year of learning and growth. January is always an exciting time as we kick off the new year and set our goals for the months ahead. In this month’s newsletter, the school will be highlighting some of the exciting events and activities we participated in last month as well as honoring student achievement. I would like to take this time to thank your student council for helping to organize our winter activity day on the last day of school in December where we celebrated the end of the year. Students were able to enjoy a pancake breakfast as well as participate in holiday activities such as gingerbread house making.
January is a busy month for Maple Hill School as students will be completing both their final school based assessments as well as partaking in provincial examinations.
We can’t wait to see all that we will accomplish together in the coming year.

Classroom Spotlight: Mr. Nickkhoo’s

Students of Human Geography 12 worked on the topic of First Peoples and Environment in December. They read some articles from New York Times like “Indigenous Peoples: Defending an Environment for All”. They also watched some documentaries on this topic including “The Radicals” for which they were assigned to contact BCHydro and make some general inquiries on the issues they watched. In January, we are working on industry. The unit aims to teach students topics like the history of industrialization, its effect on humans, Fordism and Post-Fordism as the modes of production, etc

Student of the Month

Jeremy Li

Jeremy is the student of the month for December. Jeremy stood out from the rest of the student body with showing an improved dedication to his studies by participating in class more and spending time after school for question asking. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed Jeremy. Great work!

Maple Hill School Dollar Winner

We have begun allowing students to deposit their hard-earned Maple Hill School dollars so that they don’t lose it. The student who deposited the most amount of money was Justin Zhao! Great work Justin on practicing English! Students, please remember to deposit your money with me so I can keep track and you don’t lose your hard-earned dollars! Students must use their money before January 24!
